The Three Questions
Oct 18, 2026
What follows is an excerpt from the TRP Super Camp Coaching Playbook. You can hear more about these concepts in Episode 318 of The Pickleball Therapy podcast (releasing 10/23/2026), available on any podcast platform.
It’s not a TRP Camp without significant mental game coaching. The Three Questions below are designed to help you get the most out of each play session:
- Framing Your Day: Why am I playing today? You get to decide why pickleball matters to you. The “trick” is reminding yourself of your “why.” This reminder reduces the chance you’ll get derailed by losses or controversy.
- Additive Gratitude: What can I do for someone else today? Do something extra positive the next time you play. It’s good for you. And it’s good for the person on the receiving end.
- Focus Area: What one thing will I work on today? If you’re on an improvement journey, pick one area. Just one. Players can fall into the trap of trying to figure out everything that happens in every rally. That spreads your bandwidth too thin, and nothing gets enough attention to improve. Focusing on one area will get you far more results. If you’re not on an improvement journey, the answer can be “nothing.” Nothing wrong with simply enjoying the day.
Framing Your Day
Today I am going to the courts to:
___ Get exercise
___ See my friends
___ Let my competitive juices flow
___ Express my pickleball self
___ Other __________________________
Additive Gratitude
Today I am going to make an extra effort to:
___ Warm up before I start playing
___ Ask [friend name] how they or their [partner, child, other] are doing
___ Invite ______________ to join us on our court
___ Other __________________________
Improvement Focus Area
If you’re on a pickleball improvement journey,
Today I’m going to focus on:
___ My return of serve
___ My fourth shot
___ My serve
___ Footwork / court positioning
___ Other __________________________
Lock in one area and let the rest of the game just be what it is.
Be well,
